What I do with your information

Therapy only works if you can be honest, and that depends on knowing where your words go. This page explains what I collect, why, who else can see it, and what you can ask me to do with it. If anything here is unclear, ask me before you book.

Who is responsible

Hannah Olofsson, a nationally licensed psychologist practising online as Expat Psychology Chile, is responsible for the information described here. You can reach me at expatpsychologychile@gmail.com about anything on this page.

What I collect, and why

When you get in touch. Your name, email address, and whatever you choose to tell me in your message, so I can answer you and work out whether I'm the right person to help.

When you book a call. Name, email, time zone and the answers you give in the booking form, held by my scheduling provider so the appointment exists and you get a reminder.

Once we work together. Clinical notes, assessment results and correspondence, plus the practical records I'm required to keep, such as dates of sessions and payments. I keep notes brief and factual rather than verbatim.

Confidentiality, and its limits

What you say in session stays between us. I will not confirm to anyone that you are a client without your written permission. There are a small number of exceptions, and I would rather you know them now than discover them later:

  • There is a serious, immediate risk to your life or someone else's.
  • A child or a vulnerable adult is being harmed.
  • A court or a regulator requires disclosure, in which case I share the minimum needed.
  • I discuss anonymised material in clinical supervision, which is standard practice and keeps the work safe.

Wherever there is a choice, I will talk to you first.

Who else is involved

A few services handle information on my behalf: a scheduling provider for bookings and reminders, an email provider for our correspondence, and a secure video platform for sessions. They process only what the task needs, and sessions are not recorded. I do not sell your information, and I do not use it for advertising.

How long I keep it, and what you can ask for

Enquiries that don't turn into work are deleted within a year. Clinical records are kept for the period my professional and legal obligations require, then securely destroyed.

You can ask me for a copy of what I hold, ask me to correct something that's wrong, withdraw consent for a specific disclosure, or ask me to delete what I'm not required to keep. Email me and I'll respond within thirty days.

In an emergency

This site and online therapy are not emergency services. In Chile: *4141 (Fono Prevención del Suicidio, 24 hours), 131 for an ambulance, 600 360 7777 for Salud Responde.
